7/10 I thought I could have done better, because I'm interested in the women of the Bible and how HaShem sees women. Reply

8/10 I didn't know as much about this one as I should have, but now I do. Thank you for the lessons. Reply

10/10, but I’m not surprised. She is one of my heroes. The story of Devorah is one that I feel is under-represented in its influence on the role of Jewish women in orthodox society. Reply

Raymond West Hollywood July 16, 2026
in response to Elena:

I think it is with her in mind that the Talmudic Sages remarked how "Where there is no man, strive to be a man." One application of this is that while normally women do not take the leadership role of an entire nation, that in Deborah's case it was accepted because there was no good man to fill that role at the time Reply

the answers to question 1 is a bit suspect - calling Sarah a prophetess? Reply

Raymond West Hollywood July 16, 2026
in response to Kristine Gate:

Sarah is said to have greater prophetic powers than her husband Abraham Reply

Professor Dickshtein SA July 16, 2026
in response to Kristine Gate:

Yes, indeed! We see Hashem tells Avraham, "Whatever Sarah says to you, hearken to her voice," since she exceeded Avraham in her prophetic powers! Reply

Erika Germany July 16, 2026
in response to Professor Dickshtein:

Can you explain that to me, how Sarah exceeded Avraham in her prophetic powers?? Reply

I got 8 out of 10 correct. Thank you Rabbi Posner, for giving us a new quiz. Reply

Raymond West Hollywood July 14, 2026

I scored 9/10. The only one I got wrong was the name of Deborah's husband. I actually did much better on this quiz than I had anticipated Reply

I….bombed. 6/10. I do wonder what it means in the Tanaka when certain names are repeated, Reply

Susan Levitsky July 14, 2026

3/10 I don't know much about Deborah. Her name means bee. Since biblical names have retroactive meaning, I thought she kept bees. Reply

Raymond West Hollywood July 14, 2026
in response to Susan Levitsky:

well perhaps Deborah was as sweet as honey Reply

Erika Germany July 16, 2026
in response to Susan Levitsky:

No, she didn't keep bees. It's a hint to honey, which is a "picture" for the Word of G-d. Reply
